Selecao look to get the fans back onside with a victory in Group A opener.

The wait is finally over. World Cup 2014 is finally on the horizon as host nation favorites Brazil look to put the smiles back on the faces of the Brazilian people with an opening game win against a strong Croatia side.

It has been well documented in recent months at the concern and displeasure of a large portion of the Brazilian people over revelations at the amount of government spending on this year’s highly anticipated World Cup. In a recent poll, over 60% of people in fact dis-approved of the country hosting the tournament. This leaves more pressures on the Brazilian team than they could have imagined and it will be to Luiz Felipe Scolari and his players to make sure they don’t disappoint in Sao Paolo on Thursday afternoon.

Team News, Formation and Possible Starting Line-ups

Brazil Formation (4-2-3-1) – Julio Cesar(GK), Dani Alves, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Marcelo; Luiz Gustavo, Paulinho; Hulk, Oscar, Neymar; Fred.

Brazil could potentially deploy the exact same starting line-up from last year’s convincing 3-0 win over Spain in the Confederations Cup final. With no injury concerns, Scolari will feel as though he has a full squad to choose from. Question marks of the potential frailties of this team’s defence has come under scrutiny with David Luiz and Marcelo not best known for their defensive capabilities, however, this is a team that have conceded just 2 goals in their last 9 matches. Paulinho and Luiz Gustavo will provide cover in midfield to allow to attacking talent of Hulk, Oscar and Neymar to use their ability to provide scoring chances for lone striker Fred. Brazil can feel even more buoyed with the interesting stat that no host nation has ever lost the opening game of the World Cup – with the 20 previous hosts winning 14 and drawing 6 of their openers.

Player to watch: – Neymar Kid sensation turned global superstar, Neymar can provide the spark for this Brazil team throughout the tournament yet alone this match. I am expecting him to play a key part if Brazil are to be success in this competition with most of the country’s hopes lying at his feet.

Croatia

Possible Formation/Starting Line-up (4-2-3-1) – Pletikosa (GK), Srna, Vida, Lovren, Corluka; Vukojevic, Modric; Perisic, Rakitic, Kovacic; Olic.

With quite possibly the most talented Croatian team to ever grace the world stage, along with the so called ‘underdog’ label, Niko Kovac and his men can feel quietly confident going into this game. Unbeaten in the 5 games since national legend Kovac took over (winning 3; drawing 2), this Croatia team possesses a vast array of talent and will certainly be no push-overs in this match. Without suspended Bayern Munich frontman Mario Mandzukic along with a potential injury to left-back Danijel Pranjic, Croatia are one or two players short of full-strength but by no means are out of this tie. Experienced right-back and captain, Darijo Srna will make his 114th cap on the night and will lead a back-line compromised Corluka, Lovren and possibly either Vida or Vrsaljko covering for the injured Pranjic. Holding midfielder Vukojevic will allow Luka Modric the freedom in the middle of the park whilst the exciting trio of Perisic, Rakitic and Kovacic will provide an exciting attacking flair to the Croatian ranks. Experienced striker Ivica Olic will more than likely deputise for the suspended Mandzukic. Nikica Jelavic and Eduardo will most likely have to settle places on the bench. Croatia will also be going into this tournament boasting an impressive defensive record, conceding just 11 goals in their last 13 games (0.85/game) – the best ratio of all 32 qualifying nations.

Match Prediction

Brazil are likely to get their World Cup campaign off to a win, but do not expect them to achieve it in traditional samba-style. Croatia are by no means an easy task for this Brazilian side who will struggle to dominate possession for parts of this game in my opinion. The emergence of Rakitic and Kovacic this season along with the brilliance of Luka Modric will give the Selecao something to think about. I do, however, feel as though the absence of talisman Mandzukic will give them a lack of fire-power up top against this resilient Brazilian defence and can see Neymar and co. just edging this close encounter. After all, Brazil’s last home defeat came 37 matches ago against a Paraguay side in 2002. Brazil to win 1-0.

In a Premier League season that has thus far, for the most been dominated by both Manchester clubs, this upcoming Sunday presents the perfect opportunity for North London to stake back some title revenge.

It starts with Harry Redknapp’s men. As they make the trip up north, Spurs will be looking to prove that the 5-1 drubbing at White Hart Lane back in August was merely an off day. There is, however, more at stake this time round for both sides, as just 5 points separate Spurs from table topping City.

Revenge has been the key word between these two teams in recent years, as Spurs managed too claim a famous win at the Etihad Stadium 2 years ago, ensuring their Champions League dreams, and ultimately, fourth spot. City are by no means the same opposition from 2 seasons ago, and they have quickly forgotten the memories of a late Peter Crouch goal, with Mancini’s men having been dominant throughout the season to date.

Man City enter the game with a slight dip in form, and while still maintaining their 100 percent record in the league at home this year, they have lost their last 2 at the Etihad, with defeats coming in both cups, to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively. Spurs enter the game unbeaten in their last 7 Premiership games, winning four, as Redknapp’s men have all of a sudden become both City and United’s, main title contender.

Team News
For the home side, Mancini’s team continues without the absence of both Toure brothers, who are at African Cup of Nations Duty along with suspended captain Vincent Kompany, who’s red card against United 2 weeks ago, sees him sit this one out. Mancini has the option of recalling Mario Balotelli as he returns from injury, and I wouldn’t be surprised see the City manager spring another one of his tactical surprises, by putting Balotelli in from the start. Other than that, City is at full strength, and will be looking for the assurances from Savic and Lescott, as they continue their unfamiliar partnership at centre half.

For Tottenham, they will have to cope without in-form striker Emmanuel Adebayor this Sunday, as he sits out due to ineligibility reasons. Injuries to Gallas, Sandro and long absentee Huddlestone, are also preventing Spurs from being at full strength. Jermaine Defoe will most likely take the place of Adebayor, with Van der Vaart positioning himself just behind the front man. Spurs bring what is in my opinion, the most in-form midfield within the Premiership to Manchester this weekend, with the pace of Lennon and Bale, craft and vision of Modric, accompanied by the no-nonsense bullish Parker, I can’t see a more formidable midfield four in Britain at the current moment.

My Prediction
I can see Tottenham picking something up this Sunday. Whether it being a draw, or perhaps sneaking it 2-1, I just feel the pace and Menace of Bale and Lennon will be too much for the Man City full-backs, and I’m not entirely convinced with their centre-half partnership either. City looks a different side without the presence of Yaya Toure, and in my opinion has now met a midfield that can match them all over the park. I’m going too go for it and say Spurs 2-1.

There was a time not so long ago, a Manchester United team travelling to North London only meant one thing, and that was to get one over arch rivals Arsenal for the title. Now, with Spurs knocking on everyone’s doorstep, the game this Sunday provides different meaning for both sets of managers.

For Sir Alex, it will prove a crucial three points needed, no matter what the outcome in the earlier game. For manager Arsene Wenger and especially the Arsenal fans, the game means everything, as the Gunners not only look too keep themselves in the hunt for fourth spot, but also rectify the horrendous 8-2 loss at Old Trafford not so long ago. United will have by every mean reason to be confident, as they have won 2 of their last 3 visits to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have gotten themselves back into a nerve wrecking position, coming off the back of two successive league defeats, they will look to put further light between themselves and Liverpool, both of whom are hunting for that prized Champions League slot. Fans at the Emirates will be hoping the return of icon Thierry Henry can upset Fergie’s title hopes, as it certainly wouldn’t be the first time Henry has troubled United. For United, everyone concerned at the club will be hoping that their convincing 3-0 result over Bolton last week was the start of another impressive title run.

Team News
It doesn’t get any easier for Wenger’s side, as injuries to key defensive areas this season have been undoubtedly the cause for much of their demise. Without any real recognizable full-backs, Djourou and young Miquel could well continue the void’s left in the Arsenal defence, however, don’t be surprised to see a shock return to the side from Thomas Vermaelen, as he could well be fit for the crucial clash. Mikel Arteta also looks set to miss out with a calf problem, and Jack Wilshere is still a few weeks away from full fitness. It will be interesting too see if Wenger goes with both Henry and Van Persie together this Sunday, as Arsenal look to change their misfortunes in the league of late. An ever-decreasing period of form from Andrey Arshavin, could well make that selection that much easier.

For United, the only new injury concern has been with Anderson, who has suffered a setback and will miss out, however, the shock return of Paul Scholes has all of a sudden left Sir Alex with midfield options. I feel as though they might crowd that area, preventing Arsenal from playing football so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rooney play the lone striker. Valencia and Nani will prove key for United this weekend, as Ferguson will certainly be looking to both to get at two very un-experienced fullbacks. Jones should continue at right back for United, with Smalling partnering Rio in the middle. The debate of who should start in goal for United continues, with Anders Lindegaard looking to keep his place as number one.

My Prediction
On paper, I am firmly siding with the away team this Sunday, but one can never rule an Arsenal team with their backs against the wall out. The Gunners will be looking to restore pride and belief at the Emirates this weekend, and who better to destroy United’s dreams than a returning legend, in Henry. I can see the attacking flair of United proving too much for Arsenal too handle this Sunday, but United have had defensive frailties of their own in recent times. I’m going to go for goals in this one, a 2-2 draw with plenty of entertainment at either end. Arsenal and United have thrown up some classics over the years, and while the title challenging days seem to have dried up, let’s hope the passion and desire hasn’t.

If there was ever an award for a manager who can pick a bargain, look no further than a certain David Moyes. Having to overcome financial obligations in the transfer market year after year, Everton have always been widely seen by many as a top ten Premier League club, and one who has performed admirably over recent seasons.

David Moyes is a manager who has too take full credit, a man who knows how to deal well within his limitations, and always seems too get the best out of the resources available too him. A club known to act shrewdly in the transfer market, by picking up free transfer signings along with the help of loan signings, Everton always manage to get by, comfortably as the seasons go by. Look no further than the 2004/05 season, when Everton defied the odds by breaking into the formidable ‘Top four’ at the time. A miraculous achievement, by a team who certainly know how to utilize their maximum potential.

Their Latest acquisition in Darron Gibson, is another who falls into the baragin basket, with the Republic of Ireland International signing for less than £2 million, as his contract was set to run out at the end of the current season with United. Everton have been no strangers to this years January transfer window, as Moyes completed the loan signing of U.S International Forward, Landon Donovan last week. Besides the possible addition of another striker, I don’t see Everton having the funds available too seriously add again in this window.

Gibson Impact

Gibson was a little unlucky to have not cemented a more permanent position at Old Trafford, as his impressive displays have seen him score some wonderful long-range goals that have Everton fans will no doubt be hoping to see. While it is not widely obvious Everton are lacking strength in the middle park, (with rising stars such as Jack Rodwell and Ross Barkley coming through the ranks), Darron Gibson will prove to be a valued addition to a goal-shy Everton side as we approach the run-in and second half of the season. Known for his intent to get forward, Gibson is very much a player who likes to get in the mix, and without doubt has an eye for a strike from outside the box. It could prove vital to provide Tim Cahill with some competition for the role, with another option of Phil Neville also returning to a full-back position to make way for a keen to play, Gibson. Everton have certainly acquired a player determined to prove his worth, with the Irish International also hoping to impress an ever-watching Giovanni Trappatoni, ahead of the managers’ Euro 2012 squad selection. Everton’s intent to committing him to a long-term contract, also shows their belief that they may well have a real player on their hands. Gibson joins fellow ex Manchester United players such as Neville and Louis Saha, as he hopes too prove that there is indeed life after Old Trafford after all.

Season Expectations

Currently lying in a respectable mid-table position of 11th, Everton will certainly be looking to push on this season and get as close to a European spot as possible. Whilst they realistically seem unlikely to break into the formidable ‘Top 6’, Moyes will be looking for his side to display what is usually a strong Everton finish to the season. Whilst their pre-season transfer kitty was next to nothing, I still feel Everton failed to replace the departing menace of strikers Yakubu and Jermaine Beckford. A lack of firepower up top has left them losing games they should be drawing, and drawing games they should be winning. Some of the positives David Moyes can take from the season thus far, is the emergence of young talent Ross Barkley, who in my opinion is a future England international. This guy is the new Frank Lampard for me, and it will be interesting to see how much of a role he plays when he gets back from injury. Everton have always been known for producing good young players, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see players such as Duffy and Velios be next in line for a first-team role. My Prediction for the season: 8th place

Almost 3 months have past since the ‘noisy neighbours’ and blue half of Manchester claimed the latest bragging rights of the city, as Roberto Mancini’s City thumped United 6-1 in their own backyard back in October. A much anticipated FA Cup 3rd round clash between the two sides will take place in the Etihad stadium this coming Sunday as both teams look to set the record straight.

A dream tie for both sets of supporters as Sir Alex’s men look to return the favour and put the pressure back on City as his injury stricken side make the short journey across the city to face a less than full strength Manchester City side, who in recent weeks have failed to deliver with just 3 wins from their previous 6 league matches.

United have also struggled of late with back to back defeats in the league against bottom of the table Blackburn Rovers along with a less than impressive performance against a determined Newcastle side midweek. That says little about the potential outcome of this fixture, as both managers will surely be looking to get the fans back on their side and with a win against their fierce arch-rivals should surely be the perfect remedy.

Mancini has had his hopes of having the Toure brothers available for the tie dashed yesterday as Ivory Coast have stood firm on both with younger brother and Africa’s player of the year for 2011 Yaya, which is surely to be a massive blow to his starting eleven. City also look set to be without the charismatic Mario Balotelli (ankle) and the in-form Gareth Barry whose double yellow card against Liverpool in midweek leaves him suspended for the clash. Mancini’s doubts of being able to fill the bench for the match have somewhat taken a turn in his favor with Samir Nasri (illness) likely to recover in time to at least take his place amongst the substitutes. Other than that, I expect City to be unchanged from their 3-0 victory midweek with Nigel de Jong looking set to replace Gareth Barry in the middle of the park and a possible starting role for Adam Johnson and Joleon Lescott looks to be on the cards with both looking set to replace the departing Yaya and Kolo Toure in both midfield and defence respectively. Edin Dzeko will likely lead the line for the blues as he looks set to shake off a slight knee problem picked up in midweek.

As for United, Ferguson will likely struggle to select a back four capable of handling the menace of Silva and Aguero. However, Ferdinand and Jones should continue in the centre of defence with Rafael and Antonio Valencia likely to be battling it out for the right-back slot. Patrice Evra will most likely continue on the left, and the much anticipated goalkeeping battle between David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard looks set to stir more talking points with the latter expected to keep his place in goal for the Red Devils. Options are few and far between for Sir Alex so an unchanged midfield with the exception of the returning Anderson possibly replacing Ryan Giggs will be the likely outcome this coming Sunday. I expect Wayne Rooney to keep his place up front with Berbatov, Welbeck and Javier Hernandez all battling to for that last starting spot.

An interesting battle is surely expected on the cards, with my key match-ups being whether or not Carrick and Anderson can handle the trickery and ability of David Silva slipping between the lines for Manchester City. I also believe City is lacking pace on the flanks, so it will be interesting too see if Clichy and Richards can handle the pace of Valencia and Nani up and down the wings. Weakened defences for both sides will surely be the target for both sets of managers, so an attacking game is much anticipated for what is sure to be one of the games of the season thus far.

<p 4="" 6="" 9="" 10="" the="" season="" is="" almost="" over="" and="" other="" then="" charlton="" athletic,="" final="" relegation="" spots="" are="" still="" up="" for="" grabs="" by="" two="" unlucky="" clubs.="" while="" it="" has="" not="" been="" made="" official,="" only="" a="" matter="" of="" couple="" more="" matches="" before="" charlton's="" to="" league="" one="" confirmed="" leaving="" slots="" teams.="" there="" teams="" within="" points="" zone,="" with="" wins="" in="" last="" those="" will="" be="" safe.<="" p="">

Teams that only need 2 more wins to guarantee safety:

Doncaster Rovers: 49 points, with one more win they will pass the 50 point barrier which usually is the points needed to stay safe in the Championship

Watford: 47 points and have one game in hand. With the game in hand, Watford should be able to secure safety with two more wins at minimum.

Derby County: 47 points and two games in hand Derby are in good position to secure safety this season. While their form has been up and down they have enough talent to secure safety by April.

Blackpool: 47 points, they have been mid-table all season and after just securing their future last season, Blackpool know what it takes to survive in the Championship and I think they will do it.

Teams in immediate danger of entering the drop zone:

Barnsley: 44 points, two games in hand. If Barnsely can win their two matches in hand and pull off another win and a couple of draws that should be enough for them to stay in the Championship for another season.

Norwich: 43 points, while they are only two points away from the drop zone, Norwich have picked up their form getting 10 points from a possible 15. If they can keep this form up it will be an uphill battle but it should be enough to secure safety.

Plymouth: 43 points, Unlike Norwich, Plymouth are on a horrible run of form and that doesn’t look like that is about to change. Plymouth need to dig deep and find a way to win or all too soon they could find themselves playing football in League One next season.

Team in the Current Relegation Zone:

Nottingham Forest: 41 points, Forest have struggled to adapt to the Championship all season and have endured more then a couple of thumpings this season. They have hovered around the drop zone all season and unless they find something inside them and a few results go their way they will be making an immediate return to League One.

Southampton: 40 points, 1 match in hand. Southampton have been around the relegation zone all season and they need to find a way to start winning, and winning fast. They need to basically win all their remaining matches and hope that some results go against those four teams above them if they are to pull off an escape.

Charlton: 29 points, 1 game in hand. At this point it really doesn’t matter what Charlton do, they are headed for League One next season. All they have to play for is pride and finishing off the season as best they can. Its amazing to think only three years ago they were a mid-table Premiership team and now they will be in League One next season.

My relegation predictions: Charlton, Nottingham Forest, Plymouth. I think Southampton will escape.

Many predicted Wolves would earn a playoff spot this season but very few, including myself thought they would storm the Championship and minus a few blips stay there all season in pole position. Currently Wolves are 5 points ahead of second placed Birmingham withboth having played 40 games. On April 6th, Wolves take on second placed Birmingham at St. Andrews and I believe that will decided the winner of the Championship. If Wolves win this match they will be 8 points ahead with 5 matches to play. Wolves also play relegation threatened Southampton (H), Derby County (A), QPR (H), Barnsley (A) and finish off the season at home to Doncaster Rovers. I believe that Wolves will take 12 points from thier remaining games and win the Championship and automatic promotion to the BPL for next season. Mick McCarthy has done a great job at Wolves this season, beating all expectations many had placed on them for the season. If they can hold on, and think they will, we will see those gold kits in the Premiership once again.

Watford v Chelsea – Vicarage Road

Just last week I would have said there was no chance of Watford pulling an upset but I’m not sure. With Chelsea playing poor football and Scolari being sacked just 4 days before the match how will Chelsea react? Will they come out and have a hangover or will they take any anger over their managers dismissal out on Watford? The talent gulf is clear between the two clubs but that doesn’t always guarantee a victory. Watford does have the home pitch advantage which will help boost them. However, I still think Chelsea will squeak by Watford 2-1 but it won’t be pretty.

Derby County v Manchester United Episode III “Revenge of the Rams?”- Pride Park

This will be the third time Derby and United have faced off this year, with Derby taking the first leg of the Carling Cup 1-0 and United taking the tie and second leg 4-2. I give Derby a 15% chance of springing the upset on United. Derby are playing good football right now, Rob Hulse and Kris Commons are on hot streaks and Commons has showed he not intimidated by United. Pride Park will be a sell out and the Rams fans will be loud and in full support of Derby. However United are full of talent and if they play like they can, Derby wont stand a chance. I think Derby will do well but I expect United to take this 3-2.

Swansea City v Fulham – Liberty Stadium

This is a battle of two teams who are performing above expectations in their respective leagues. Swansea City is showing it can handle life in the Championship with no problems while Fulham are having a good year after barely escaping relegation last season. Swansea isn’t afraid of any team and they will be playing at home which will help Fulham dispatched non-league Kettering Town while Swansea struggled to beat non-league Histon. I think Fulham will take this tie but it depends on which Swansea team shows up that will determine the score, my guess 3-1 Fulham.

Blackburn Rovers v Coventry City – Ewood Park

I sense an upset here, Blackburn are not playing well at all while Chris Coleman has Coventry doing well in the Championship. Blackburn struggled to get past fellow BPL team Sunderland while Coventry likewise had issues with BSP Torquay. I think out of all the ties this one has the best chance for an upset. Coleman has Coventry believing they can win and Blackburn are having a bad season. My guess 2-1 Coventry.

Sheffield United v Hull City – Bramell Lane

The surprise package of the BPL travels to a solid Sheffield United squad. While United are playing well and on track for the CCC playoffs, Hull are having a magical season in the BPL. They are not afraid of anyone which has contributed to their success. Hull takes this 1-0 in typical Hull fashion.

Arsenal v Cardiff City 4th Round replay – Emirates Stadium

Cardiff did well to hold Arsenal in the first match but I think Arsenal will show their class in the replay of the tie. The talented youngsters Wenger has at his disposal is frightening. Arsenal to advance 4-2.

Sadly I see this weekend as a continuation of business as usual for the FA Cup. Other then Coventry springing an upset on Blackburn I think it will be a clean sweep for the BPL Clubs. I hope and would love to be proven wrong and of course Lets Go Ewe Rams!!

This was more then just your average Derby match, the rivalry between these two clubs is fierce and the fact that one club has the opportunity to knock the other out of the oldest cup competition makes it even more intense. There are so many underlying stories of this tie that add to it: Kris Commons a former Forest player returns to the City Ground against his old club, Derby have not won at the City Ground since October 1971, Nigel Clough, the son of legendary Forest and Derby manager Brian Clough is on the Derby touchline and former Derby Manager Billy Davies is on the Forest Touchline. If that wasn’t enough, the first leg ended 1-1 at Pride Park after a scrappy match with tempers flaring.

The match started out nightmarish for Derby as they went down 1-0 in under one minute when Chris Cohen took his own short corner and put the ball into the top corner leaving Derby Keeper Stephen Bywater unable to save. It went from bad to worse if you were a Derby fan when Bywater brought down Nathan Tyson for a penalty. Stephen Bywater was luck to not see red since he stopped a goal scoring opportunity, Tyson then stepped up and put the ball into the top right corner. Derby were now down 2-0 and only 14 minutes had passed. It looked as if Forest would get the best of their rivals and bragging rights would be theirs but with a cup tie things were about to change. Derby refused to give up and on 27 minutes, Rob Hulse headed in a cross from Gary Teale to give Derby a lifeline, it was now 2-1 to Forest. No changes were made when both teams came out for the second half and Derby came out on fire, Paul Green equalized on 59 minutes heading it home from Teale who had his second assist of the match. Game on! The moment that made this tie was yet to come and showed why the magic of the FA Cup was alive in this tie. Derby winger Kris Commons was jeered every time he touched the ball by the Forest faithful who considered him a traitor for signing with Derby over the summer. He didn’t let that bother him and was shooting all match long, in the 73 minute that persistence would pay off. He blasted a shot that deflected off Forest defender Wes Morgan. Derby fans went wild, they had come from 2-0 down to take a 3-2 lead. Derby held on for the win and a home tie against Manchester United in the 5th round.

This tie had everything a football fan could hope for, drama in both legs of the tie, two clubs and fans who don’t like each other and never will, underlying stories and dramatic winners. This tie showed that while both teams may not play in the BPL that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good cup tie. The FA Cup magic was on full display during this tie and showed how magical it truly can be.

The site http://match.therams.co.uk/ is free to register on and provides commentary as well as fan banter throughout the match. For Rams fans who are unable to attend Derby matches for whatever reason, this is a great resource to keep up with the Rams as they push for an immediate return to the BPL.

If other Championship clubs have sites like this, email me and I’ll be glad to get them out for any fans who may not know of them. I know as an American, its hard to get Championship matches and I am sure it is the same way for anyone not in the UK. So let me know if there are sites like this one so you can enjoy your clubs season.

Away fans are housed in a temporary stand in the East Side of the ground while the permanent Away stand is being built. It currently houses 1,700 away fans. The stand also has no roof and the wind from the sea cuts right into the away supporters. There is a good chance of finding yourself signing in the rain if your an away fan at Blackpool. The No 1 Bar is adjacent to the visiting fans and is rather friendly to traveling fans. There is a nominal fee to get in however. There are also other bars within a 10 minute walk of Bloomfield Road that are welcoming to visiting fans as well.

St. Andrews is the home to Birmingham Football club since 1906. It is an all seater stadium with a capcity of 30,016 and the pitch is 155 x 75 yards. Almost three quarters of the ground has been renovated since the 1990’s and was made the Tilton Road End and Spion Kop. The Railway End which opened in 1999 is a two tiered stand. Currently Birmingham are debating whether to move to a totally new stadium or undertake a 12M pound expansion that would bring the capcity to 36,500.

Away Fans:

Away fans are housed in one end of the Railway end which has an allocation of 3,000 but can be increased to 4,500 for cup games. Visiting fans will be surrounded by home fans from above and next too. They are seperated by a plastic net. The view is a good one for visiting fans unlike other stadiums.

Food and Beer:

If you get hungry while watching the match you can purchase burgers (£2.80) and rollover hot dogs (£2.70), plus a range of Shire Foods pasties, sausage rolls & pies including the Chicken Balti Pie (£2.30). There are a few pubs around the ground but most are not places to go if you are not a Birmingham Fan. There are two within a 10 minute walk, the Brighton Pub and the Cricketers Arms that will tolerate visiting fans.

Ticket Prices:

Ian Dowie was sacked by QPR only 15 games into his tenure. The Rangers are sitting in 9th place in the CCC. His contract was terminated with immediate effect. The official QPR site posted that Dowie had been sacked but no reason was given. It is thought that in-fighting within the board and Dowie was rumored to clash with board members on transfer policies as well. Gary Ainsworth has been appointed caretaker manager and will take charge of his first game at Reading.

Michael Knightly and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake found the net for Wolves and added another three points to the early promotion contenders tally. Birmingham kept pace with a 2-1 victory over Cardiff with James McFadden and Owusu-Abeyie Quincy scoring for the Blues, Ross McCormack got one back for Cardiff but it was Birmingham who walked away with a vital three points.

Reading took Swansea City to task winning 4-0 at the Madjeski with Noel Hunt, Stephen Hunt and Kevin Doyle (x2) finding the net for the Royals. This solidified 3rd place for Reading who are looking to bounce straight back into the BPL. Preston lost ground on the top two with a 3-1 defeat at Burnley. Gudjonsson, Eagles, and Caldwell did the damage for Burnely which moved them into 8th position. QPR also lost ground and thier 100% home record losing to resurgent Derby County 2-0 at Loftus Road. Martin Albreachtsen and Tito Villa provided the goals for Derby.

Barnsley and Norwich played to a 0-0 draw at the Oakwell Stadium. Likewise Blackpool and Coventry played a 1-1 draw with Burgess for Blackpool and Eastwood equalizing for Coventry. Charlton’s promotion bid took a hit with a 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday at The Valley. Charlton drop to 14th while Sheffield Wednesday are up to 9th and only out of the playoff spots due to goal difference. Southampton climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Doncaster at Keepmoat Stadium. An own goal by Matthew Mills and a penalty conversion by Andrew Surman gave the Saints a valuable three points and put Doncaster just above the relegation zone. Nottingham Forest’s poor run of form continued with a 1-0 defeat thanks to Preston at Home Park. The loss has Nottingham Forest at the foot of the Championhship table. Watfords poor start to the season got worse with a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United that left Watford very close to the drop zone. In the late match of the day, Ispwich and Crystal Palace played a 1-1 draw that saw Palace stay in the drop zone and Ipswich move into mid-table safety.

The Championship resumes play this Tuesday with a host of fixtures. Will Wolves and Birmingham keep up there dominant start to the season? Can Derby keep thier undefeated streak alive, will Forest ever win again?

The relegated teams from the BPL last year are having solid seasons minus Derby County. Birmingham are in 3rd position with 10 points and is only out of an automatic promotion spot via goal difference behind Preston and Wolves. Reading are in 6th position with 7 points and playing well while Derby County are at the foot of the table with a meager 1 point. There dreadful form from last season has carried over and despite Paul Jewell bringing in 14 new players, wins are still something that Derby County can not conjure up.

The promoted teams from League One least season are having solid starts. Swansea City are sitting in 7th with 7 points and adapting well to the CCC, so are Doncaster who are in 10th with 7 points as well. Nottingham Forest are 16th with 4 points. If all three clubs keep up this form they will survive this season and miss an automatic return to League One which is what they want to avoid. Other teams that have stormed to a good start are table topping Wolves followed by Preston North End. Bristol City are continuing thier good form from last season as well no faltering one bit. Sheffield United are sitting in the final play-off place and are looking like they may challenge for promotion. Blackpool who won promotion last season from League One and barely avoided relegation last season are sitting mid-table and look to have adapted to the CCC. Charlton is having a rough start sitting in 11th place with 6 points. They along with Watford and Sheffield United are in the last year of the parachute payment a club gets when relegated from the BPL for two years if they are not automatically promoted. These three clubs need to get promoted back to the BPL this season or that extra money runs out and it becomes increasingly hard to gain promotion.

One thing that has been fun is there have been more then a couple of high scoring matches this season in a division that is known for its physical play and route one football. In 4 match weeks we have had two matches end 4-1, two matches end 4-2, three matches end 3-0, and one total demolition of 5-1. While the CCC has high scoring matches, it is known for grinding out the 1-0 result more then prolific scoring. This is an evenly matched division from top to bottom. As last year showed with both Stoke City and Hull City gaining promotion, you never know from week to week what is going to happen or who will get the coveted promotion spots. As my fellow blogger Dominic Mather said, this is the most competitive league in England with any team having the chance to beat another team. The table is going to change many times over the season and teams will rise and fall all season, this is the beauty of the Coca-Cola Championship.
